“The purpose of the slobber strap is to add weight and feeling to the bit. When I pick up on the reins I want the stiffness of the slobber strap to instantly move the bit, causing feeling in the horse’s mouth. Then, when I release the rein, the weight of the slobber straps should instantly carry the rein to a full release position, leaving the weight of the whole bridle hanging on the horse’s poll, not on his tongue and mouth.”
