Description

Ken McNabb’s Trail Rider University – Aug 19-23, 2024

WHAT IS IT? Join Ken McNabb for a week-long all-inclusive Trail Rider University, hosted at Wyoming’s Powderhorn Ranch! As a rider, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Enjoy miles of breathtaking trails complete with mountain views, flowing creeks, stunning rock formations, wildflowers and aspen trees, and plentiful wildlife.
  • Gain confidence and build your relationship with your horse both in the arena and out on the trail. You’ll enjoy one-on-one and group lessons with Ken as you learn how to achieve the body control (and emotional control) you need to lead your horse through various obstacles with ease.
  • Enjoy fellowship over homecooked meals with fellow riders and crew, courtesy of Powderhorn host, Susie True, and her five-star team. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included in your stay!

WHAT WILL THE WEEK CONSIST OF? Morning sessions are normally dedicated to group (and one-on-one) arena lessons with Ken, focused on improving your overall leadership & confidence, navigating obstacles, and developing control for the trail. During arena lessons, you will also have the opportunity to work on more advanced maneuvers as you and your horse are ready. You will also have the opportunity to work your horse on an outdoor obstacle course with tarps, bridges, noodles, logs (and whatever else we add on), all with Ken’s guidance.
Each afternoon, the group will head out on a trail ride, guided by Ken and his staff of Master Certified Trainers. Riders will be exposed to a variety of natural obstacles, including creek crossings, fallen timber, rocky hillsides, and more. You will likely run into deer and antelope, and may also get some glimpses of elk, black bears, bald eagles, and more! Every trail ride will take you to a different part of the ranch’s varied landscape, and you’ll feel like you’re in a new place every day! At times, Ken will offer different routes for more adventurous riders who wish to go deep into backcountry, and less extreme loops for those who would relax and enjoy the scenery.  Whether you consider yourself a novice or advanced, Ken is excited to help you and your horse grow.
After a long day of fun in the saddle, be prepared to relax over a home-cooked meal. Then enjoy the comfortable & beautiful lodging of the ranch; enjoy a sunset walk around the property, or perhaps stargaze and recount the day around a cozy campfire. Feel free to kick back in a chair, read a book, watch a good movie, or sit on the porch and enjoy the sounds of the babbling creek and bugling elk. You may also enjoy browsing the Ken McNabb tack store or Powderhorn Ranch gift shop.

PROGRAM PACKAGE. Trail Rider University is an all-inclusive trip at $3,200 – this includes riding instruction, lodging, meals, and stall/shavings/hay for your horse (you may bring or borrow one at no additional cost).
Guests may arrive at the ranch on Sunday. Riding activities will start on Monday and go through Friday. Dinner will be provided Sunday evening and breakfast will be served on your checkout day, Saturday. Ken has spent years developing and refining this program.
